Poznan is one of the cities that competes for the title of a European Capital of Culture 2016. The other Polish contestants are Gdansk, Lublin, Lodz, Szczecin and Torun. The title will give benefits in form of EU financial support for cultural projects and renovation of historical monuments. It’s a great opportunity for Poznan for publicity, promotion and possibility to attract tourists.
Poznan is well known among businessmen thanks to Poznan International Fair. It’s attracts investors and salesmen. However, the city has a lot to offer for tourists.
Apart from the Old Market Square, which holds various artistic events, Poznan features
“Zamek”, which is its main cultural centre organizing all kind of artistic events including exhibitions, theatre and film shows, educational workshops etc.

Another hub of artists activity is
“Stary Browar”, which holds regular events such as happenings, exhibitions, dance and theatre shows and many more.

Yet another place, which can boast organization of various cultural and sporting events is
Malta Lake. One of its top events is
the Malta International Theatre Festival, which takes place annually in the Summer (this year between 23rd and 28th June). The event is accompanied by shows and concerts. The Lake is also a popular recreation area holding many sporting events.
Poznan also features numerous parks, which can serve as open air venues for events within the European Capital of Culture 2016.
Hopefully, the city will win the competition due to its vibrant cultural life and a great artistic potential.
