Public Transport Tickets

Both buses and trams use the same tickets issued by the MPK (Public Transportation Company) in Poznan. However, the bus and tram ticket systems differ.

TRAM TICKETS

If going by TRAM, one should get a TIME TICKET, which means that a given ticket is valid for a specified period of time. One can get a tram ticket valid for 10, 30, 60 and 90 minutes. The idea is to buy it prior to boarding a tram and validate it in the ticket validator once you are on board the tram. After inserting the ticket into the validator slot, the tram ride start time is being printed on the ticket. It is possible to validate two 10-minute tram tickets at one go which allows one to travel for 30 minutes. However, if you use only one 10-minute tram ticket and after the stated period lapses, you need to use another 10-minute tram ticket to continue your journey. In this case, the ticket is valid for the 10 minutes only (20 minutes altogether, not 30 as is the case while using two 10-minute tickets at one go!).

If you are planning to stay in Poznan for long, getting a 24-hour or a weekly ticket seems the best solution.
If using a TIME TICKET, one does NOT need to get another ticket while changing trams provided the journey time does not exceed the time limit stated on the ticket!

There are full fare (''N'' – the letter stands for ''Normalny'') and half fare (''U'' – the letter stands for ''Ulgowy'') tickets.

NOTE: On boarding a tram, remember to validate your ticket in the ticket validator. Otherwise, you might be fined.

BUS TICKETS

If going by bus, one can use either a time ticket system (as is the case with trams) or a bus stop system. As for the former, the rules are the same for the buses and trams (discussed above). As far as the latter is concerned, the bus stop ticket is valid for a given number of bus stops. One can choose between a ticket valid up to 10 bus stops (''do 10 przystankow'' in Polish) and a ticket valid for more than 10 bus stops (''powyzej 10 przystankow'') which covers the whole bus route. The prices differ. A 10 bus stop ticket costs PLN 1.80, whereas the ticket for the whole route (above 10 bus stops) costs PLN 3.00. Upon boarding a bus, the tickets needs to be validated in the ticket validator which prints either the time (time ticket system) or number of stops (bus stop ticket system) on the ticket.

NOTE: A bus stop ticket is valid for a given route, so one cannot change for another bus or tram when using it!

If planning to stay in Poznan for long, it is a good idea to get a 24-h ticket or other long-term tickets valid for a week, a month or even a year.

There are full fare (''N'' – the letter stands for ''Normalny'') and half fare (''U'' – the letter stands for ''Ulgowy'') tickets.

Seasonal and express line tickets usually cost twice the standard regular fare.

NOTE: On boarding a tram or bus remember to validate your ticket in the ticket validator. Otherwise, you might be fined.
