For tourists sightseeing the Old Town and its environs, it is advisable to walk as major monuments are situated within a walking distance. As for the attractions situated further from the centre, it is advisable to use public transport.
The tram is the fastest of Poznan's means of transport. There are as many as 18 regular daily tram routes and one night tram route. The daily tram routes are distinguished by their numbers from 1 to 18. The night tram has got the ''N21'' number.
As for daily trams, they operate between 4 a.m. and 12 p.m. on working days and usually run every few minutes. The night tram operates from 11 p.m. till 4 a.m. (except for Mondays). It goes along the PST (Poznan Fast Tram) line.
The ''PST'' or ''Pestka'' is the first and only tram line in Poland, open in 1997, where trams can go at the maximum speed of 70 km per hour. The route is planned to be expanded to cover other parts of the city. The PST, due to its strategic location serving the central and northern parts of Poznan, is a strategic tram route. On the average, it can handle about 5,000 passengers per hour. The N21 night tram and four daily trams (numbered: 12, 14, 15 and 16) run along the PST route.
Each tram stop displays the routes, the timetables and the duration of the journey from one stop to another. Frequency varies depending on the time of day (more frequent during the rush hours) and the day of the week (less frequent at weekends, during summer and public holidays).
